In this week's Club Communications you'll find reminders on the now live tackle height law trials plus information on applying to the Club Sustainability Fund. We also bring you important information regarding safeguarding ahead of the 2023/24 season. |
Tackle height law trials are now live |
Tackle height law trials in the community game are now live.
The law trial, will now see tackle height reduced from shoulder height to below the sternum, also known as ‘belly tackle’ height, in both gender categories of adult and youth rugby at the domestic level (Premiership and below).
The move to lower the tackle height follows World Rugby endorsed trials conducted in France and South Africa, where lowering the tackle height has been shown to reduce the number of head-on-head contacts and concussions.

As we now start to prepare for season 2023/24, Scottish Rugby kindly asks that you review your club’s coach records on SCRUMS to ensure they are an accurate reflection of those currently active at your club/have been active in the 2022/23 season.
REMEMBER - Coaches should NOT be coaching children without having a PVG in place which links them with your club.
Please note that every youth coach who is ‘awaiting verification’ will be sent a reminder email to ask them to either complete the PVG process or update their profile to remove themselves from your club's active coaching list.
We would also request that you check the list of inactive coaches on SCRUMS and take steps to either make those coaches active (speak to your club Child Protection Officer) or remove them from your list.
If no action is taken by Monday 13 August all inactive coaches will be removed from your club’s SCRUMS account.
This is to ensure that all clubs are compliant with Scottish Rugby’s Safeguarding Policies whereby all persons undertaking regulated work have a PVG linking them to the club where the regulated work is taking place.
If you have any questions about managing coach data or verification in SCRUMS, please contact scrums@sru.org.uk
If your query relates to the PVG status of a coach or the PVG process, please contact safeguarding@sru.org.uk
