In this week's Club Communications you'll find important reminders on how to apply to the Scottish Gas Community Net Zero Fund alongside competition and operational reminders for clubs. You'll also find brand new information on upcoming match officiating course in conjunction with the Rugby World Cup and a brand new education resource for Primary Schools exploring the excitment of the Rugby World Cup.

Reminder: Scottish Gas Community Net Zero Fund - apply now!

Clubs are now invited to register their interest to the Club & Community Net Zero Fund, created in partnership with Scottish Gas.

The £2m fund has been created to support rugby communities across Scotland reduce their energy bills and carbon footprint, and allows clubs to receive free tailored energy efficiency advice and access grants from the fund to help pay for improvements.

Rugby World Cup Primary Schools Curricular Pack

Scottish Rugby has designed a workbook for Primary School educators all over Scotland, coinciding with the Rugby World Cup!

The Primary Schools Curricular Pack is centered around the Rugby World Cup set to unfold in France this September and October.

We hope that this workbook will instil a love of sports within children as an integral part of an active and healthy lifestyle, help foster an understanding of the intricacies of the game of rugby and will allow pupils to explore the world of the Rugby World Cup, the third-largest global sporting event after the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup.

Reminder: Player Payment Declaration - submit annual form

Competitions reminder

In accordance with SDR 4.1, all member clubs must provide a signed Annual Declaration Form in respect of each season. All forms can be found via SCRUMS, linked below.

Clubs providing player Benefits (as defined in SDR 4.1) must also provide an Annual Listing of Player Benefits.

The Declaration and Player Listing Forms for season 2022/23 cover the period 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.

The forms for this MUST be submitted by 27 September 2023. Click HERE for the forms.

Scottish Rugby's Competitions team wish to remind clubs, that those seeking dispensation not to be allocated a competition fixture due to a traditional Six Nations tour match, should please contact their relevant Competitions Committee with full details of their request, as soon as possible.

Same Game, Different Shirt

Throughout the Rugby World Cup, Scottish Rugby has a number of opportunities for you to take your first steps towards becoming a match official.

Linking in with live screenings of the Scotland Men v Tonga RWC match, four courses are planned on Sunday 24 September 1-4pm.

At Scottish Gas Murrayfield on Saturday 30 September, there is an opportunity to complete the Introduction to Match Officiating course before attendant the Scotland Women v Spain autumn test match at the Hive Stadium (with a complimentary ticket), with female only and open courses planned.

There are many reasons to take up match officiating; remaining involved in the sport after playing, choosing to enhance your knowledge of the laws or progressing through the career pathway to achieve your goal in officiating. No matter what the reason, officiating is a rewarding, exciting, and enjoyable way to stay involved in rugby.

Tackle Height support - new module & workshops available

Tackle Height Law Trials – Bitesize Module

Game Development have created a short module for club volunteers, parents, spectators and players, that covers the new Tackle Height Law Trials.

This includes a quiz that allows people to see how the laws will be refereed. This module can be found on the Tackle Height Hub on the Scottish Rugby website. Click on the link below and scroll down to access the module.

Tackle Workshops for Coaches

Over the course of September and October Rugby Development are running several workshops around the country that have been designed to provide tips and ideas on how to coach the tackle this season

These practical workshops focus on providing understanding around the physical competency required to lower the tackle height, as well as technical and tactical key factors for the first and assist tacklers.
