Tennent's Women's Premiership Final - Stirling County claim maiden title

Stirling County claimed their first ever Tennent's Premiership title at Bridgehaugh on Saturday 28 January in a thrilling battle against Corstorphine Cougars, winning 27-8.

It was a quick start for Cougars as they opened the scores at a sunny Bridgehaugh in the opening five minutes.

But the tempo soon shifted for County when youngster Lucy McRae sprinted her way through the wall of blue and red to take Stirling inside Cougars half for the first time in the game.

It was some 15 minutes before another try was scored. County put in the hard yards working through their phases inside Cougar’s half, before Macrae and Nicole Flynn linked up to find space on the wing to claim another five points and retake the lead from the visitors.

A penalty awarded to County allowed Jodie Hutton to tap and pass to Angharad Hopwood who crashed over the whitewash to extend County’s lead.

Stand-off Ceitidh Ainsworth managed to identify herself some space to power through the defence before offloading to hooker Aicha Sutcliffe, who was close by in support and fired across the line for County’s third try.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, another penalty awarded to County inside Cougars danger-zone set up the next try scoring opportunity. The forward pack carried to draw Cougars’ defence in, before whipping the ball wide through the backs, reaching Flynn who bagged her second try of the match.

Become a Papa Johns Tartan Touch Hub

Scottish Rugby Gender Participation Policy Updated

Papa Johns Tartan Touch is back for 2023, and clubs can now apply to become a hub!

If you wish to apply to become a Papa Johns Tartan Touch Hub, please complete the online application form by Friday 3 February 2023. We will notify all successful clubs in February/March.

Scottish Rugby has amended the eligibility criteria in its existing Gender Participation Policy which will be applied from 1 February 2023.

The amended policy now aligns with the already published positions of other rugby union governing bodies in the UK and Ireland which follow guidance from World Rugby and the Sports Councils’ Equality Group (SCEG).

Last week Rugby Development launched a new programme designed to better prepare and develop individuals in the front-row positions across all levels of the domestic game.

Through a series of practical workshops and online resources, ‘Scrum School’ will provide support to coaches and players with the aim of creating stronger, more confident, and skilled front-row players.

Coaches are now invited to sign up to the first round of Scrum School courses. More information can be found via the link below.
